Labour's David Chaytor sentenced to 18 months in jail

The first of the MP's prosecuted for theft and fraud has been sentenced to 18 months in jail today.

Labour MP, David Chaytor admitted three counts of false accounting and the prosecutor said bogus documents “were designed by Chaytor to siphon money off from the public purse to which he was not entitled".

According to news reports, Chaytor is a broken man. He wasn't a broken man when he thought he wasn't going to be prosecuted at the Old Bailey. He thought that as an MP he would get away with a slap on the wrist by his peers and was above the law of the land.

The sentence for this type of crime ranges between 18 months and 7 years and as an MP it is no surprise he has received the lowest sentence. He will only serve 9 months of that sentence and could even be out earlier with tagging.

Four MPs on terror hit list

Channel 4 News has learned that police are advising four MPs whose names were found on a suspected terrorist hit list. The news follows the knife attack on Labour MP Stephen Timms. Political correspondent Cathy Newman reports.

Former minister Jim Fitzpatrick, the Labour MP for Poplar and Limehouse, is among the four MPs who have been offered advice and assistance by the police.

Channel 4 News understands Scotland Yard is reviewing security for all 650 members of parliament in the wake of fears over Islamist extremists.

Senior police sources have expressed concern that politicians may be at risk from so-called "self-radicalisers" - lone extremists who are not part of an organised plot but who are inspired by al-Qaida. Scotland Yard tonight declined to comment.

The disclosure comes two weeks after the former minister Stephen Timms was stabbed while speaking to constituents. The attack in east London by a young Asian woman is now being treated as a terrorist investigation. His assailant is believed to have been radicalised by Islamist extremists.

Minister admits Islamic extremists who believe in jihad and sharia law have infiltrated the Labour Party

The Labour Party has been inflitrated by Islamic fundamentalists, a Government Minister admitted today.

Members of the Islamic Forum of Europe (IFE) which believes in Britain should develop sharia law have placed sympathisers in elected office and local branches of parties, an investigation revealed.

The covert campaign is part of an attempt at 'mass mobilisation' of voters by the group, which believes in jihad.

Jim Fitzpatrick, the Environment Minister, told the Sunday Telegraph the IFE had become a secret party within Labour.

He said:

'They are acting almost as an entryist organisation, placing people within the political parties, recruiting members to those political parties, trying to get individuals selected and elected so they can exercise political influence and power, whether it’s at local government level or national level.They are completely at odds with Labour’s programme, with our support for secularism.'

Mr Fitzpatrick, the MP for Poplar and Canning Town, said the IFE had infiltrated and 'corrupted' his party in east London in the same way that the far-Left Militant Tendency did in the 1980s.

Leaked Labour lists show a 110 per cent rise in party membership in one constituency in two years.

A six-month investigation into the IFE and its political activities revealed it had 'consolidated' its influence at the London borough council of Tower Hamlets, which has a budget estimated at£1bn.

Other recordings by undercover reporters include leaders of the group saying they opposed democracy and supported sharia law.

The investigation revealed the group had received £10m in taxpayer cash from government funds designed to 'prevent violent extremism'.

It also uncovered evidence that moderate Muslims were being targeted by group leaders who resent their 'un-Islamic' behaviour.

Lutfur Rahman, leader of Labour-run Tower Hamlets Council, obtained his post with the group's help.

Referring to IFE activists, he said: 'There are various people across Tower Hamlets who get excited, who get involved.'

He would not comment on concerns about infiltration, saying they were 'party matters'.

He said: 'If you look at our flagship policies, like investing £20 million to tackle overcrowding, you can see that we are working for everyone.'

The IFE said it did not seek to influence the council and had not lobbied for Mr Rahman.
'If anything, existing members of the Labour Party have joined the IFE, rather than the other way round,' it said.

The group insisted it was not a fundamentalist or extremist organisation and did not support violence.

Labour today promised to investigate the allegations and said the local party in Tower Hamlets was already in 'special measures'.

This means the selection of candidates has been taken over by the regional party in London.

'The London Regional Labour Party has placed Tower Hamlets Labour Party in special measures following complaints of membership abuse and its administration, including the selection of council candidates, has been taken out of the hands of the local party,' the party said in a statement.

'This is now run by the London Regional Labour Party and we will investigate any further evidence which is raised by this programme.

'The Labour Party will take firm action and do whatever is necessary to ensure that everyone who joins the party does so as an individual and supports Labour's aims and values.'

Tower Hamlets Council recently courted controversy by proposing to build 'hijab'-shaped arches at either end of London's Brick Lane as part of a cultural tour.

Residents said the £1.85m scheme was culturally-insensitive and a waste of money.

Binge Drinking at the Tax-payers Expense - Labour MP's

Two Labour MPs took part in a champagne drinking contest on an official Commons junket to Paris, which led to one of them being violently ill.

Left-winger Bill Etherington drank so much that a doctor was called.

It was feared the MP might die after he defeated fellow Labour MP Geraldine Smith in the expenses-fuelled boozing competition.

The incident caused lasting damage to the UK’s relations with Europe, with Labour MPs saying it led to Britain being banned from a key European post.

Anti-monarchist and former miners’ union leader Mr Etherington outraged senior politicians from across the Continent when he projectile vomited at a dinner.

The conduct of Labour’s self-styled ‘champion drinker’ was reported to Downing Street, but Labour Party leaders ordered a cover-up to prevent a major scandal.

Astonishingly, no action was taken against him. He was told to ‘carry on junketing’ – and returned to Britain yesterday from a trip to Romania similar to the one in Paris where, according to other Labour MPs, he disgraced himself and his country.

Four MP's Charged With False Accounting

Three Labour MP’s and one Tory peer are being charged with theft false accounting.

These aren’t simple lapses of concentration when putting forward an expense, but deliberate theft, to the extent where false receipts/invoices were created.

The dishonesty of those in charge of our country never ceases to amaze me, but what I find amazing is that there aren’t more of them facing charges. Lot’s more.

While those who have claimed excessively wriggle and squirm their way out of a summons, it seems these four men’s only chance is to use a law dating back to 1689.

Under the ancient law, the Commons rule book on expenses is covered by ‘Parliamentary privilege’ and means they can only be judged by a committee of MP’s and NOT by our courts.

What makes it even harder to swallow is the blatant disregard to the tax-payer. Lining their own pockets by any means, even at the expense of the very people who voted them into parliament and pay their wages, is all they care about.

They are thieving, lying, scheming, scum and should be dealt with like everyone else.

And what does Commons speaker, John Bercow, have to say about this fiasco? He acknowledged that the expenses scandal had done huge damage to parliament but warned against too severe a crackdown as it could put people off from standing for Parliament.

The reason for his ridiculous comment?

He's a liar and a thief himself!

What planet are these people on? Anyone who stands and gets into parliament should be above board, honest, trustworthy and faithful to the people they serve, not downright liars and thieves.

You've Been Cromwelled

For too long now, our Members of Parliament have taken advantage of us. In fact not only have we been taken advantage of, our MP's have actually stolen from us, the tax payer. Many if not all MP's have used and abused the expenses system to their benefit, some even using our taxes to pay for second homes. They have no shame, when they the people who are elected to serve us are caught stealing from us they claim to be "Playing within the rules". Those rules need to be changed to restore the balance.

MP's earn a decent salary, and can surely afford to pay for mortgages and council tax out of their salary and not burden the tax payer any longer. It is time to make a stand and the time to make that stand is now!

Back in 1653 Oliver Cromwell made a speech to Rump Parliament. A part thereof which can be found below. Take the time to read that excerpt and apply it to today's MP's, it's still very relevant is it not?

...It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonoured by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by
your practice of every vice; ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government; ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like
Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money.

“Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your
God; which of you have not barter'd your conscience for bribes? Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the

Cash-strapped Labour ‘gives up’ on 60 vulnerable seats

Labour’s cash-strapped party machine is quietly abandoning up to 60 vulnerable seats to divert resources to defend constituencies in its heartlands, according to MPs.

It is the first sign that some senior Labour figures accept that defeat is inevitable and are switching resources to defend seats with larger majorities to prevent a rout next year.

Plans for targeted mailshots in marginal seats have been scaled back dramatically because of a lack of resources. Some MPs say Labour’s HQ is refusing to help seats with majorities of less than 3,000 — about 60 — as it retrenches in the face of the Tory advance.

A member of the National Executive Committee denied that it had set a bar but acknowledged that the party was being forced to make “difficult decisions” about which seats to defend.

The retreat has left MPs furiously demanding extra cash. Even loyal allies of Gordon Brown, such as Ian Austin, who has a notional majority of more than 4,000 in Dudley North, are having to argue for money to defend themselves, The Times has learnt.

Although it has fended off bankruptcy Labour’s national party remains in a precarious financial position.

In the past year the party has “raised” £18 million compared with the Conservatives’ £25 million. However, £2 million was a loan converted to a donation and £15 million is in borrowing and credit facilities.

Party strategists acknowledge that unless the Tory poll lead — currently at 14 percentage points — can be narrowed to single figures before Christmas, there is little prospect of the party filling an election war chest.

Many Labour MPs complain they have been outspent for years as a result of the Tory target-seats operation overseen by Lord Ashcroft. Labour, unable to match his resources, nevertheless has copied the Conservatives in demanding that candidates provide evidence of active campaigning in return for support.

But with a flood of MPs expected to quit as a result of the expenses controversy, many have simply given up, according to senior Labour figures. “Requests for information on what campaigning is being done from regional offices are just going in the bin,” said one.

New data from the credit reference agency Experian, which is used by political parties to identify different groups of voters, suggests there are large numbers of disaffected former Labour voters in key seats.

Four groups have been identified as most likely to desert the party at the next election:

• Thirtysomething homemakers who voted Labour in 1997 but are burdened with debt as they start a family — they may turn to the Conservatives;

• low-skilled, largely unemployed households who will either not vote or turn to far-right parties;

• those in former manufacturing communities who no longer have strong union and Labour Party ties — they are also vulnerable to extremist lobbying;

• people approaching retirement in some of the nicer council estates who exercised the right to buy — they may also turn to the Conservatives.

Such groups are found in many seats with majorities between 5,000 and 10,000, which Labour would need to retain to win the general election.

All three main political parties employ the Mosaic marketing system, which uses commercial and other data to target different types of voter. The system divides Britain into 155 types of individual, 67 different households and 15 groups.

Research by the company behind the system suggests that Mr Cameron is making deepest inroads into Labour’s vote in the young homemakers group, which accounts for just under 6 per cent of the population. They are reported to be “extremely financially distressed”.
