VICAR ARRESTED IN SHAM WEDDING SCANDAL
Church of England vicar, Alex Brown, was arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of organising 180 sham weddings for illegal immigrants from Eastern Europe. The marriages were arranged for people outside the EU so they could stay in the country. Permanent residence is only allowed after five years of marriage.
Rev Brown of St Peter and Paul in St Leonards-on-sea, East Sussex, was arrested following an 18 month investigation. Three other people were arrested in connection with the incidents. A Ukrainian man, a Latvian woman - believed to be one of the brides - and an Armenian male are still in custody.
